Aider Configuration for Quinjet Project
This skill provides a production-ready `.aider.conf.yml` configuration file from the malkoG/quinjet repository, optimized for team collaboration and automated workflows.
What This Configuration Does
This configuration file sets up aider with:
Disabled automatic `.gitignore` modification (manual control)Enabled auto-commits and dirty commits for seamless workflowsGit author/committer attribution for transparencyCustom read-only file (`AIDER_PROMPT`) for project contextDefault settings for all other options (model selection, colors, history, etc.)Key Configuration Highlights
**Git Integration**: Auto-commits enabled, dirty commits allowed, full author attribution**Gitignore Control**: `gitignore: false` prevents aider from auto-modifying `.gitignore`**Read-Only Context**: `AIDER_PROMPT` file included as read-only reference**Flexible Model Selection**: All model options documented but not pre-configuredInstructions for AI Agent
When a user requests this configuration:
1. **Create the configuration file**:
- Write a `.aider.conf.yml` file to the project root
- Include only the non-default settings from the source (gitignore, read)
- Add extensive comments documenting all available options
2. **Explain key settings**:
- `gitignore: false` — User manually controls `.gitignore`, aider won't auto-add `.aider*` files
- `read: [AIDER_PROMPT]` — Project includes an `AIDER_PROMPT` file for context
- Auto-commit settings enabled for smooth iteration
3. **Guide the user on customization**:
- To change models: Uncomment and set `model:`, `opus:`, `sonnet:`, etc.
- To add API keys: Use `.env` file (safer) or uncomment `openai-api-key:`/`anthropic-api-key:`
- To add files: Extend the `file:` or `read:` lists
- To customize colors: Uncomment and modify color settings
4. **Provide the full configuration content**:
```yaml
##########################################################
Sample .aider.conf.yml
This file lists *all* the valid configuration entries.
Place in your home dir, or at the root of your git repo.
##########################################################
Note: You can only put OpenAI and Anthropic API keys in the yaml
config file. Keys for all APIs can be stored in a .env file
https://aider.chat/docs/config/dotenv.html
5. **Verify the setup**:
- Confirm `.aider.conf.yml` is in the project root
- If `AIDER_PROMPT` doesn't exist, suggest creating it or removing from `read:` list
- Test by running `aider --verbose` to see loaded config
Usage Examples
**Apply this configuration to your project:**
```bash
Create .aider.conf.yml in your project root with the content above
aider --config .aider.conf.yml
```
**Common customizations:**
```yaml
Use Sonnet model
sonnet: true
Add project files to context
file:
- src/main.py
- tests/test_main.py
Add more read-only context
read:
- AIDER_PROMPT
- ARCHITECTURE.md
- API_SPEC.md
```
Important Notes
This configuration assumes you have an `AIDER_PROMPT` file in your project rootAPI keys should be stored in `.env` file, not in this YAML (security best practice)The `gitignore: false` setting means you must manually add `.aider*` files to `.gitignore` if desiredAll commented options show available configuration — uncomment and modify as needed
